Thursday Thirteen - Things I'm looking forward to this summer

Thirteen Things I Am Looking Forward To This Summer No more carpool. I despise carpool with a passion. Our bus driver is never consistent in the morning so the kids only ride the bus home. I hope next year they can take both ways. Beach trips. Besides some day trips, I am spending TWO weeks at the beach this summer. It will be weird staying for so long when we live so close now (compared to our 17+ hours before) but I would be on the beach everyday if I could. Reading. Summer is when I pump out reading tons of books. I have signed up for a challenge to read 25 books over the summer. Let's see if I can do it. Going to Illinois. We are going back to our old stomping ground for a week in July. It will be awesome to spend time visiting old friends and going to our old hangouts. Put-In-Bay. We are doing an adult only weekend with a bunch of people from college. I haven't been to Put-In-Bay in years, so it should be a fun time. Plus they have some great wineries on the island. A new coach. It was confirmed that we are getting an additional coach at the gym. And we are excited because he is coming from an Olympic Training Center. Emily (and I) cannot wait. I think he is going to be a great addition to our gymnastics team. Now we will have two rocking coaches. BBQ. I love grilling out (BBQing for those in the South) and we do it almost daily in the summer. Plus it will be nice because we have neighbors that we can invite on over anytime. Swimming. We will probably spend our days living at the pool this summer. Perfect place for the kids to play and hang out, and for me to read and soak up some rays. Fresh veggies. I love summer just for the food. I love being able to get fresh veggies that taste awesome. And yesterday I planted 8 tomato and 5 pepper plants so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they do well. Salsa. I only make homemade salsa in the summer. Yum, yum, yum. No more homework. Our evenings will be homework and fighting free. Other than reading the kids are school free for 11 weeks. My plants. I can't wait to see how my trees, bushes and flowers do this summer. I'm sure I'll be taking lots of pictures. Boating. I can't wait to be able to use our boat everyday (well if time allows). Thirteen Places in the US I Want to Visit I've traveled alot around the US, but there are still lots of places I have yet to see. Before I die, my goal is to visit all 50 states. Mount Rushmore Grand Canyon - I've flown over it, but never saw it in person Mount St. Helen & The Space Needle Honolulu Hawaii Alaska - Only in the summer. I've heard it was beautiful then. Boston Vermont/Maine/New Hampshire - In the fall I've heard the changing of the leaves are amazing. Miami - Sorry Val but I just want to see the culture there. Thursday Thirteen #3

Thirteen of My Guilty Pleasures Books. I am a book-a-holic. At last updating, I own 667 fiction books. This doesn't include all my non-fiction and self help type books. Pedicures. I wear flip flops pretty much year round and I love to have pretty toes. Plus it feels good to have someone pamper my feet. Starbucks. I don't even drink coffee but I am addicted to Starbucks steamers, fraps and shaken teas. Starbucks really is the work of the devil. Whip cream. I have been known many times to stand at the fridge door and squirt whip cream in my mouth. Candles. I love to walk into a room and be able to smell the burning candle. I find candles relaxing. Baths. I love a nice, long, hot bath. I have a huge 2 person soaker tub so it can be very relaxing. Sadly anymore when I start the bath water my 3 year old comes running naked to join me. Chick flick and teeny bopper movies. 10 Things I Hate About You, She's All That, Never Been Kissed, 13 Going on 30, Wedding Singer, One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek ... and the list goes on. Soapnet. I am addicted to soapnet. I often spend 3 hours during the night in Salem, Pine Valley and Port Charles. Ipod. I am attached to my ipod. It goes running with me. In the car. Next to the bed. It's my new best friend. Underwear. I have a bad habit of buying underwear almost everytime I goto the store. I can't pass up pretty underwear. My kids. I often sneak into their rooms to watch them sleep and just to remind myself of the awesome gifts God has given me. Flowers. I love to look at beautiful flowers. I love freshcut flowers. Often a small vase full of them can be found on my table. Sadly during this time of the year I can't find ones I like as much. (However Kroger's did have a really cool fall mix before Thanksgiving) Wine. Give me a good glass of wine and I am a happy lady. Thank goodness I have discovered Trader Joes. They have some awesome wine. (Give me a glass of wine, some lit candles, a hot bath and a book and I am set for life) Links to other Thursday Thirteens! Thursday Thirteen #2

Thirteen Things I Like About Living in North Carolina Sweet tea. Everywhere you go you can get sweet tea. In fact some places offer free sweet tea. Others have a 32 oz special for $1.00. I love sweet tea. Flip flops. I can wear my flip flops all year. Church is a big deal around here. I find it comforting. I can do a day trip to the beach easily. In fact we have already done several. Nothing better than sand between my toes anytime I want. The ocean. I love being able to get to the ocean in less than 2 hours. I always find special comfort in looking at the ocean. Warm weather. Sure we had our little "ice/snow" today, but the cold weather here is really mild. And for some reason 45 degrees here feels like 60 did up North. It is a different type of weather here. Mexican restaurants. I have found some really great Mexican food here. Give me some good food and I am a happy woman. There are so many things to do here. Within a half an hour's drive there are enough activities and places to go/see/do that I could be busy all year. Different types of food choices. Japanese, Thai, Indian, Italian, American, Greek, Mediterranean, you name it and they have it here. I love being able to expand my eating options. (again see #7) BBQ. Okay so most of my love for North Carolina settles around food. But the Carolina's are well knows for their BBQ. Come visit me. Try the BBQ. I promise you will want to move here. The schools. Our school district rocks. The education our kids are receiving here is not even comparable from where we have lived before. Crepe Myrtle's. Everywhere you drive there are crepe myrtle's. Thirteen Things I Love About Being a Mom Endless hugs and kisses. No matter how bad life may seem, they can always bring a smile to my face. Hearing my kids say "I Love you mommy". Knowing that I am their hero. Sharing my favorite childhood books and passing on to them my love of reading. Having an excuse to watch cartoons and kid shows. Happy meals. Snuggling with the kids. Watching them interact with other kids. Sounds silly but you can really learn alot about a child watching them with others. Baking cookies with the kids. Watching them grow older and seeing the person they have each become. I can sing at the top of my lungs in the car and they never think I am goofy. They are my reason to go on.
