Freaking Swine Flu

A high school student in Kobe and two other kids have tested positive for the swine flu and none of them, family members or other people have been overseas. Ugh... Needless to say things have gone nuts here.

Our school will be closed for all this week. No idea if they will extend school out a week or what. We have been told to watch the school website for assignments. Considering it is an international school and most people leave right after school is out I have no clue how this will work. We fly out what is supposed to be the last day of school and I am NOT changing my flight. My toes WILL be sitting in the sand of North Carolina on June 14.

I just went to the store and it is masks, masks, masks. (way more than normal) The shelves were emptying only a few hours after the news broke. Someone said they will be handing them out before going into places. The big festival parade here for tomorrow has been canceled. A "fever hotline" has been set up. People are urged to stay indoors. Who knows what else will come from this.

So another week home with all 3 of my kids. We just came off golden week where the kids had a 5 day weekend and Matt was off for 2 weeks. I swear if Matt's work closes I will hop on a plane and fly somewhere by myself.

Couldn't she wait just 6 more days?

Sami fell asleep in my lap during Emily's gymnastics practice tonight, then decided to start puking. Luckily she made it to the bathroom. Then the poor thing fell asleep with her head in the bucket when we got home as she said she still had "more puking to do".

Six days and the kids are all Matt's. Maybe I will book myself on a plane to las vegas nv. (A girl can dream, right?) In the meantime, I just pray Emily and Chris do not get it. And even more so myself. I don't know how I would manage to drive down the street with a bucket in my lap.

My Hate/Hate Relationship

I loathe the post office. I mean loathe. Kind of like how people who owe money hate commercial collection agencies. Just the idea of having to go to the post office makes me break out into a cold sweat. I have several "little gifts" sitting around my house that I have every intention of sending to the attended person, however my allergic reaction to the post office deters me from my good thoughts.

What is so bad about the post office one may ask? Honestly I don't know. Maybe it is something about the unknown lines, the lack of speed, the stupidity of some of the people in line (Doh! Was I supposed to address this letter before I got to the post office attendant?) or deciding whether to send something priority mail or first class.

I think much of my stress stems from enduring the PO with my kids. Long lines and long waits with 3 kids does not make for a happy or fun experience. Maybe if the post office had a drive thru window it would have kept me from loathing the PO as much as I do today.

But Monday I am going to have to put my fears and loathing behind me and head to the PO, ugh. The kids and I have a package to send to Matt. Actually we have had a package to send him for 2 weeks now. Oops.

Wish me luck.
