My Love/Hate Relationship

I have a love/hate relationship with the tax man.

I love tax time because we usually get back a great return. Yeah, I know, if we were smart we would maximize our money by making sure just enough was taken out so we got more take home pay each month. But with me being a contractor/freelancer I many times have 1099 forms and have to pay my own taxes in. This way we know we are covered if I do not pay enough in. The idea of owing Uncle Sam even a dime terrifies me.

I hate tax time because it totally stresses me out. (Me, stressed? Shocker!) I have this demand on myself to have the taxes done by mid-February. With a home office and deductions our taxes are usually pretty time consuming. Add in a 14 hour move this year, selling and purchasing a house, two state tax returns and I have a massive tax nightmare.

I was hoping to have them done before I left Saturday for Illinois, but stupid me never changed my address with the company I contract and now my tax statement will be floating somewhere in mail purgatory. I just hope it is here when I get back next Wednesday.

So hopefully within the next two weeks I will be nursing a tax hangover, having filed our taxes online and praying that they are right. And then breathing a sigh of relief, at least for the next 11 months, until we have to do it all over again.

Gotta love tax time. God bless Uncle Sam.

I hope your tax forms find you and that you get done and get a nice big refund! :)
