And Officially A Tween

Yesterday Emily came home from school, dropped her book bag on the floor, slapped a permission slip for the first school dance on my desk and started begging for me to take her to CVS to buy M Magazine.

My head started spinning. A dance? A teeny bopper magazine? Something about wanting to hang posters and clippings in her locker? Then the phone rang and she had to go in the other room "to take the call." I heard giggling and dance discussion. Oh my... she is officially a tween.

I guess I should be happy that she doesn't care that I told her Matt was going to chaperon the dance (it was a scare tactic that didn't work). And that the stars she is hanging in her locker have so far managed to stay clear of drug rehabs. And most importantly, I don't have the plague and she still wants me around.

It seems like just yesterday I was begging my mom for Tiger Beat and Bop magazines and hanging Kirk Cameron and Chad Lowe in my locker. Now it is my daughter doing the same.

Lord help me... I'm a mother of a tween.

OMG, I dread those days! Well, you just blog on how you deal with it, and I'll take notes! Good try with telling her Matt was going to chaperon! I'll have to remember that one... all though, I see Matt (my Matt) as being the "cool dad"... so using him as a chap. may not be such a great idea... LOL And I bet the same is true for your Matt! A non-threat, if you will. LOL Good Luck, and I'm glad she's still hanging on to her relationship with you... may that NEVER change! :)

Alexis,
I am a friend of Val's, and I "bloiter" (I think that's the word) here sometimes. Color me busted. ;) But this post just made me laugh out loud! I LOVED Kirk Cameron and Bop Magazine!!!!! So funny!!! Emily seems like a good kid; i'm sure you'll be fine... until she comes home with a boy, that is. :)

P.S. What about New Kids on the Block? That's who was hanging on my walls! ;)

I was one of them who bought Bop, too, JUST FOR KIRK! I knew I was going to marry him one day!!! :):) (He really would've been a great husband, eh?)

Em's going to be fine . . . she's had you to lead her. I'm so proud of her and YOU!

Ahhh Kirk.........

Well I find comfort in the fact that we can call each other and go thru this monumental time together since Ash's first dance is the same day (remember I wouldn't let her go last year).

Although I wish Ash would have asked for a magazine instead of a padded bra she could stuff because its not fair all the other girls will have boobs for their dresses Mom!

sigh...... precious moments are these. (or thats what I am trying to tell myself anyway)

You've reminded everyone in our generation about that cutie-pie Kirk Cameron! So dreamy!!! My walls were covered with him too!

Who is the "it" teen throb these days? And, did your daughter get her M magazine? (never heard of that one....)

My girls are 17 and 15 and it's been a wild ride, but not nearly as bad as I thought! Hang tough Alexis - you CAN do this!
