Reading Funk

For the first time in, well probably since college, it has taken me 3 weeks to finish a single book. THREE weeks. For those who know me you know that is unheard of. But between Matt traveling so much, the trips to DC and Myrtle, and all the kids activities I am just finding no time to read (heck I still have had the same 3 Blockbuster movies sitting here for 3 weeks). And when I do pick up a book I just can't seem to get into it.

This just eats at me. Reading is my passion. It is how I escape from life and thrust myself into worlds unknown. I remember reading a book a day when Allison was in the hospital. Books are my coping mechanism. Which is why it is so strange that for some reason I can't seem to read, when I need to.

So this is my pledge, I will read this coming week. I will get out of this reading funk. And as I look at my shelves of over 700 books (half not even read) I can't figure out what to read. Maybe a field trip to Borders, you know mixing the smell of books and coffee, will help.

In the meantime, I would love some book suggestions. I am sure someone here will have something to pull me out of this reading slump.

I have a great suggestion for you! I picked up A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel last night and I read it 3/4 of the way through before I had to put it down because I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. It's funny and nostalgic and heartwarming!

Have you ever read "Maybe the Moon" by Armistead Maupin? It is the book I always recommend to people. Great story.

Two totally different arenas, but I have been on a Ted Dekker and Francine Rivers kick.

I think I mentioned it to you once before, but based on books you've said you've liked in the past, I think you'd really enjoy The Thirteenth Tale.

I'm sorry you're in a reading funk, but I see it as a positive thing . . . that you're occupied with other things . . . your kids, trips, other fun things, and really, that's good! I mean, you read too much as it was girlie! Now that time is being put forth towards other things like . . . the beach. (Damn you. lol)

I know how you feel. It seems I have been in the same funk. I guess we just haven't come upon the right books. (Or that we know nothing tops the last Shopaholic book and having to wait another year for Picoult)

I can sympathize. I love to read, but hate those funks where I just can't get into anything. Jodi Picoult always gets my interest. Check out "Nineteen Minutes" if you haven't. It's excellent, but scared the crap out of me! Makes me want to homeschool. Otherwise, try Diana Gaballdon. I usually don't like sci-fi historical stuff, but her Outlander series sucked me in and it's one of my favorites now.

Not sure what you have or haven't read, but a few of my personal favorites are Life of Pi (slow start, but totally worth it), The Alchemist, Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas or Sam's Letters to Jennifer.
Good Luck on getting out of your funk.
