President Sighting

One exciting part of last month's Washington DC 5th grade field trip was we got to see President Bush's motorcade. We actually got to see him leave in the choppers for Camp David too, but we were going into the White House at the time and we had been stripped of everything but our IDs, so I had no camera. I was lucky enough to have a camera when he passed us on the streets at the Capitol Building. To my surprise (okay I really am stupid) the motorcade drove really fast past us. We did get to see President Bush and he waved at us. Talk about cool.

One of the mom's I was standing with was smarter than myself and used her digital camera to take a short movie clip. She emailed it to me and I thought I would share. It was one of the highlights of the trip. If you pause the movie in the right spot you can see him waving at us. Oh and ignore the background chatter. We were like two girls waiting for NKOTB to appear on stage.

Washington DC - Day 1

Emily getting ready to get on the bus at 5:30 am.

Wednesday we hit Washington DC right during rush hour. What a memorable experience to be welcomed into our Nations capital with a traffic jam. But we drove all through the city and was able to see some awesome sites right off the bat. (Many of the pics I am posting in this entry are from inside the bus)

How exciting to be driving down Constitution Avenue! (Taken from inside the bus)

Jefferson Memorial from inside the bus.

Emily and Claire posing with Thomas Jefferson.
Emily and Olivia with Jefferson's head.
View of Washington Monument (You will see lots of these)
The actual Magna Carta that is stored in the National Archives building, along with the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Inside the restaurant for dinner. It was a Moroccan place that serves us pizza, french fries and chicken and rice, while playing oldies and had a disco ball going. The parents were confused, yet the kids had a blast.

Emily & Olivia at dinner.

Nothing we saw compared to the look on Emily's face when she saw the Washington Monument for the first time. She has begged to go to DC for years and the realization that she was finally here hit her when she saw the huge monument from the bus. This trip will be an experience of a lifetime. Not because I get to see all the sites (Which I have seen several times before) but because I will get to see them with my daughter.

Wish Me Luck

I leave in 5 hours to chaperone Emily's 5th grade class trip to Washington DC. While I am excited to get to spend this once in a lifetime opportunity with Emily, I am not sure how I will fare with 80 11 years old's for three days.

Wish us luck!!

Exciting News

I am chaperoning the 5th grade class trip to Washington DC at the end of the month. Three days with 80 5th graders. Fun stuff. But it will all be worth it because I GET TO GO IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!! (Mom have you passed out yet?)

I received an email tonight that for the first time our school has been accepted to go in the White House and get a tour. Sure we won't get to actually see George, Laura, Dick and Condoleeza, but just to know they may be in the same building. Wow. Now I have to send the school all my extra security information, but hey. I GET TO GO IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!
